Colleges of Higher Education and Universities

The region boasts a multitude of study facilities and innovative networks. The Faculty of Labour Administration has been spun off from Fachhochschule des Bundes (Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences). Among the courses on offer since September 2006 at the now independent “Hochschule der Bundesagentur für Arbeit” is "Labour Market Management". 300 students are enrolled in the bachelor course and receive instruction on a modern campus.
The Baltic College is also new in Schwerin (www.baltic-college.de) – a privately run college of higher education with the dual bachelor degree course in "Hotel and Tourism Management".

There are also important contacts between companies at the location and the nearby universities in Wismar  (www.hs-wismar.de) and Rostock (www.uni-rostock.de) , as well as with the universities and colleges of higher education in Greifswald, Stralsund and Hamburg.
The University of Wismar, in particular, with its branches of study in mechanical engineering, process and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, etc. and the affiliated institutes (e.g. Institut für Oberflächen- und Dünnschichttechnik – Institute for surface and thin-film technology, Institut für Polymertechnologien – Institute for polymer technologies) plays a role in efficient collaboration in the region with its academic and scientific potential.
